Is this safe to use with young children, pets, or older family members?
The air-dry clay itself is gentle and simple to use — safe for capturing prints from babies, older children, pets, or any family member. As with all our kits, adult supervision is required throughout, and this product is not suitable for unsupervised use by children under 3 due to small parts (the letter and number stamps). We recommend washing hands after handling the clay and after making the impression. Clay may stain surfaces, so please use a protective cover on your table.
What age is best for this?
Unlike our Casting Kit, there's no narrow window here — this works beautifully at any stage, from a newborn's first weeks to a toddler's handprint to a grandparent's. Because it's a simple press-and-personalise process rather than a timed cast, there's no rush to use it before your little one grows. Just note that, due to small parts (the letter and number stamps), children under 3 should not handle the kit unsupervised.
How long does it take to set?
Leave your finished piece to dry at room temperature for 48 hours before putting the cover on. Avoid moving it or placing it somewhere too warm or too cold during this time — a stable room temperature gives the cleanest result.
Can I fit more than one print in the frame?
Yes — that's exactly why we sized this frame larger than a standard single print. It comfortably fits at least two adult hand prints and two small children's hand prints, making it perfect for capturing the whole family in one piece.
What if I mess up my first attempt?
No problem — simply remove the clay from the frame, knead it until pliable again, and have another go. Unlike casting, clay can be reworked until you're happy with the impression.
Does the clay need to be kept somewhere before use?
Yes — keep the clay sealed in its packets until you're ready to use it, or the clay will start to dry out and won't press cleanly. When ready, take all three packets out and knead until pliable before you begin.
